Ati Radeon Auto Tuner

We ran our performance tests on basically the same platform on which we overclocked the Phenom 9600, except with the CPU running at spec. Since that review, AMD updated its ATI Catalyst drivers from 7.12 to 8.1, so we used the latest drivers for the graphics card. Otherwise, everything was pretty much identical.

May 31, 2010  ATI Radeon HD4830 - can't overclock. Hello all, I performed the installation of newest Catalyst drivers, but I am unable to overclock my card with ATI Overdrive. I executed Auto-Tune, everything going very well (it checks the maximum speeds for both GPU and memory clock) but the associated slider doesn't move for further (stopped on 585MHz. Radeon™ WattMan, which was first introduced in Radeon™ Software Crimson Edition 16.6.2. It provides performance tuning and monitoring of GPU behavior, enabling the ability to fine tune your gaming experience for different applications.

We first ran the tests at the graphics card’s specified clock frequencies. Next, we used the built-in ATI Overdrive to perform its own tests and recommend an overclocked configuration. You can do this by clicking the Auto-Tune button.

During this process, it hard-locked the PC several times. We rebooted and started the Overdrive utility, which picked up where it left off, and finally gave us a recommended memory and core clock frequency. We then ran our suite of performance tests at those frequencies.

Finally, we installed ATI Tray Tools. Using the typical overclocking method of cranking up frequencies a notch at a time and testing for stability, we found the highest stable clock frequencies we could wrest out of the 3870.

We ended up testing on three different clock profiles:

It’s worth noting that, during our Crysis test at our maximum overclocking profile, there were so many graphical artifacts and visual problems—mainly missing and flashing textures—that we considered the tests failures. Continued…
